Notoriously famous talk radio host Derryn Hinch is dabbling in the dark side of life, having taken a role as a shady character in the Melbourne Channel 7 cop drama, City Homicide.
Hinch filmed the role this month, one of his rare forays into the acting world.
“I played myself in Underbelly, I played myself in the Wog Boy movie and I did the Rocky Horror stage show about a year ago,” Hinch said.
“Out of the blue, City Homicide called and said they were looking for someone to play a crusading radio-type person, and my wife said to me, `Are you playing yourself?’
“I said, `Gee, I hope not because this crusading radio-type person is a hypocrite, is a sleaze bag, and gets caught by the paparazzi in a brothel, so I am certainly not playing myself’.
“Oh, and he also gets caught up in a murder investigation.”
Hinch, 3AW’s drive-time host, worked with Nadine Garner and Noni Hazlehurst on the scenes.
“It was really good fun,” he said. “They treated me really well and it was interesting to do.
“I love doing stuff that is outside your own comfort zone. It is just great to have new challenges.” The bearded bandit quipped.
“I don’t think it is a new career — but it was fun to do.”
While he hasnt had much acting experience at all, except looking concerned on his old tv show, Hinch is no stranger to the demands on actors, having been married to actor Jacki Weaver.
“I spent so many years holding coffee and reading lines with Jacki Weaver, so I have been around the business a long time,” he said.

Darryn’s wife thinks him being a hypocrite, a sleaze bag, and getting caught by the paparazzi in a brothel to be acting normally? No surprises there really.
