TWELVE thousand women are being forced to work in brothels after being smuggled into Britain, a shock report revealed yesterday. And vice cops estimate the girls are earning gangster pimps more than £1million every day. Most of the women are from China, Thailand and Eastern Europe. A two-year police study found that up to 17,000 foreign women are now working in brothels. About 2,600 are known to have been trafficked by slavemasters and another 9,600 “vulnerable” women may also have been smuggled there. Police chiefs say the true figure is likely to be even higher because many women have not yet been identified. Immigration Minister Damian Green described the trade as “brutal” and said: “Combating trafficking and looking after its victims is a priority to the Government.”

In local Australian news, Brothels in Melbourne under new laws being considered by several councils would be made to install signs telling workers and clients sex slavery is illegal.

In an effort to reach women brought to Australia illegally and forced to have sex, often for no money, the signs would offer phone numbers to seek help and information on Australian law. The move comes amid claims from the Federal Police and brothel owners that sex traffickers are using Melbourne’s legal brothels as a front for their trade.

The owner of Collingwood brothel Le Boudoir, who asked not to be named stated “Over the past three years I would have had at least four to five people approach me with the offer of girls. They said the same thing. They had girls available, ‘Would you be interested? They’ll make you a lot of money.’ ”

Visiting a brothel is one thing, a normal escort has chosen that field as a career, and no doubt many enjoy their job very much, but selling a person as a sex slave is a disgusting act, and inhumane.
